LTCA GLadiators – Brent
As part of a 3 day Summer course in the London Borough of Brent, coach Tez was asked to teach Cheerleading as a focal point of the event.
The cheerleading classes proved to be a success and with good interest shown, LTCA Gladiators were approached by Brent Leisure Centre to provide a rare opportunity for the kids in the local area to take part in Cheerleading and Gymnastics. A special class was started which ran for 8 weeks from October until December.

It was a great opportunity to provide cheerleading classes for kids as young as 4, covering a wide variety of Cheerleading and Gymnastics skills. A lot of fun was had as they learned Dance and Motions, Jumps, Basic stunts such as Knee/Thigh Stands, Gut level Libs and Basic Gymnastics such as Forward Rolls, Handstands and Cartwheels. It wasn’t all work though, as the kids were able to play on the air track and use the class as an opportunity to blow off steam!
As well as teaching the fundamentals of cheerleading the parents also expressed a great response and attitude from the classes saying that their child had progressed in learning to count and had improved their stability and body awareness. The parents were also impressed at how quickly their children were able to make friends and how the environment bought out increased sociability in their children.
Coach Tez said his highlight from the 8 weeks was “watching one shy 5 year old progress quickly. From having never taken part in any gymnastics-related activity to being able to kick up and hold a handstand within one season”.
